Nerita tessellata occurs on the shores of the Western Atlantic Ocean from Florida to northern Brazil, including the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea. This species inhabits the intertidal zone on rocky shores at depths 0-3 m. The shell is black, with regularly spaced white markings; up to 25 mm in size.
